Hi All,
My name is Safari and I come from Seeing Eye Dogs Australia. My new handler is going to be Melissa who I really adore. I will be helping Melissa around as she is Blind.
I started my training on August 28th,2006 and only trained for 2 weeks as my mummy was real confident working with me and was able to get real good mobility out of me.I will tell you all a little about myself and about my handler.
I am a 5 year old Golden Retriever and my parents are Bella-Rose and Cody. I also have 5 working siblings and they are named Santo,Shelby,Storm,Sabre,Sarina and Shadow didn't pass the training.
I am a very majestic man and my mummy Melissa adores me. My mummy likes to call me a ladies man because I like the females better then the males.
My mummy Molly80's real name is Melissa but she likes to call herself Molly for short. Her eyes are not too good because she is totally blind in her left eye but has some light perception in it and her right eye has some hand motion at 10cm in it and can only make out real bright colours and red and yellow.
Melissa went blind from a couple of eye problems which are Keratoconus which her cornea's are curved and very thin and she had a left corneal transplant in 2004 but it didn't help her and when she was a fetus her mum had german measles, hence the reason that Melissa went blind in later life.
